FIGAN 2025: Circular Livestock - Innovation and Opportunities in Waste and Energy Valorisation for a Sustainable Future

On March 28th, 2025, GREENHOOD will join forces with three European projects, NENUPHAR, HARVREST, and LIFECOVET, for a workshop on “Circular Livestock - Innovation and Opportunities in Waste and Energy Valorisation for a Sustainable Future” from 11:30 until 14:30 at FIGAN (Feria Internacional para la Producción Animal), in Zaragoza (Spain).
Background
FIGAN (Feria Internacional para la Producción Animal) is Spain’s leading trade fair for animal production, recognised as a key meeting point for livestock professionals. Organised by Feria de Zaragoza, this biennial event serves as a hub for showcasing the latest developments in livestock farming technology, sustainability, and innovation.
The fair provides an excellent platform for companies and professionals to present advancements in barn technology, feed solutions, animal health, and breeding systems. International exhibitors introduce innovative products while discussing current industry challenges. A key highlight of FIGAN is its expert conferences and technical seminars, fostering knowledge exchange on topics such as sustainable livestock farming, agricultural digitalisation, and efficient production strategies.
Joint workshop
As agriculture and livestock sectors transition towards sustainability, this event serves as a pivotal platform to explore how agricultural and livestock waste can be transformed into valuable resources. The workshop on “Circular Livestock - Innovation and Opportunities in Waste and Energy Valorisation for a Sustainable Future” focuses on waste valorisation in the regions of Aragon and Catalonia, showcasing technologies that convert waste into biofertilisers and renewable energy sources.
Throughout the day, experts from various disciplines will guide participants in the analysis of the mapping of agro-livestock waste in the region, the most advanced technologies for their treatment and energy use, as well as the barriers and opportunities that exist to implement these solutions in the sector.
Organised by BETA Technology Centre, CIRCE, and CAMPAG, the workshop will focus on 4 European projects NENUPHAR, GREENHOOD, HARVREST, and LIFECOVET. This session will provide insights into:
- The current challenges and opportunities in managing agricultural and livestock waste
- Emerging technologies and regulatory frameworks
- Practical case studies from industry leaders
- Strategies for integrating sustainability into livestock farming
GREENHOOD will be represented by key partners from Demo Region #1 (Ebro River Basin), including BETA Technology Centre, FERTIEBRO, and SORIGUÉ. The workshop will feature three presentations from GREENHOOD:
- BETA Technology Centre will present findings from WP1 on nutrient imbalances, barriers, and opportunities to restore balance in territorial units, while also gathering additional data for WP1.
- SORIGUÉ will showcase the pilot project to be installed in Torre Santa Maria.
- FERTIEBRO will present advancements in tailor-made fertiliser formulation.
Additionally, GREENHOOD will be featured in the CAMPAG Summit, a session dedicated to short pitches on ongoing EU projects related to FIGAN’s themes.
Who should attend?
This workshop is designed for manufacturers, dealers, farmers, importers, veterinarians, public administration representatives, consultants, engineers, researchers, and educators.
The event will be held in Spanish and offers a unique opportunity to connect with industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers driving innovation in sustainable livestock farming.
Access to the hall requires FIGAN 2025 accreditation, which can be obtained free of charge.
