Symposium for the Use of Organic Soil Amendments (SUOSA)

The Symposium for the Use of Organic Soil Amendments (SUOSA) is taking place from 16 to 18 September 2025 on the Southern Gold Coast, Australia, bringing together leading experts from agriculture, environmental sciences, economics, and policy to discuss the benefits, challenges, and future directions for the use of organic soil amendments in agricultural and horticultural production systems.
About the event
This multi-disciplinary event explores the agronomic, environmental, societal, regulatory, and policy dimensions of using both solid and liquid organic amendments. These include raw or processed animal manures, agricultural residues, food and fibre processing residues, as well as urban organic residues. Attention is also given to a wide range of processing options, such as composting, pyrolysis, drying, digesting, insect farming, pelletising, granulating, and value adding.
Key topics of discussion covers nutrient management and soil health, carbon sequestration, circular economy approaches, regulatory frameworks, and the benefits and adoption of organic soil amendments by farmers.
The symposium is of particular interest to researchers, policymakers, industry experts, and producers, offering them a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge and perspectives.
GREENHOOD at SUOSA
GREENHOOD is represented by its partner LUKE, Natural Resources Institute Finland, coordinator of the Archipelago Sea Basin demo-region.
The keynote presentation focuses on:
- Agronomic efficiency
- Food and feed safety
- Potential environmental losses induced by bio-based fertilisers
These topics build on the outcomes of the previous LEX4BIO project, coordinated by Luke, and link directly to GREENHOOD’s mission.
GREENHOOD further aims to overcome barriers hindering the widespread use of bio-based fertilisers, ensuring their safe, efficient, and sustainable adoption in agriculture.
