From policy to practice: advancing nutrient recycling in the Archipelago Sea Basin
On 17 September 2026, GREENHOOD joins forces with the EU-funded project Nutribudget in Loimaa, Finland, to host a collaborative Governance Lab workshop on nutrient balancing and nutrient use efficiency. This in-person session builds on the discussions from the first Governance Lab held in Helsinki on 16 June 2026, bringing together policymakers, regional authorities, industry representatives, and farmers to translate policy insights into practical action.
About the Governance Labs
The GREENHOOD Governance Labs are participatory platforms designed to bridge the gap between technical innovation and policy reality. At each event, we bring together regional stakeholders, experts, and policymakers to co-create actionable roadmaps for sustainable nutrient management.
Our goal is to ensure that the environmental solutions proposed by GREENHOOD are practically feasible, scalable, and perfectly aligned with the regulatory frameworks of our chosen ecosystems. This session focuses on the Archipelago Sea Basin demo-region.
What to expect?
This collaborative workshop brings together the results of the Nutribudget project with GREENHOOD's ongoing governance work, focusing on all aspects of balancing and enhancing nutrient use in Finland. Participants will engage in dialogue covering:
- Nutribudget project results: Presentation of findings on nutrient balancing and nutrient use efficiency at national and regional level.
- GREENHOOD governance update: Progress and insights from WP3 Governance Lab work in the Archipelago Sea Basin demo-region.
- Policy discussion: A joint exploration of instruments and measures to advance nutrient recycling in Finland.
Full agenda to be confirmed.
Who should attend?
The round-table dialogue relies on a diverse network of cross-sector experts. Attendees include policymakers and authorities covering the environment, fertilising products, security of supply, and waste regulation, alongside farmers' union representatives at central and regional level, processing and bio-based fertiliser industry advocates, and companies active in nutrient recycling.
The session is supported and organised in cooperation with our Finnish partners, including LUKE (Natural Resources Institute Finland), the Finnish Biocycle and Biogas Association (SBB), KEHA-Centre, and MTK Southwest Finland.
