End of sampling campaign for the Woodchip Bioreactor in Vinkenloop

Over the past four months, reasearchers from Deltares have successfully completed a biweekly sampling campaign in the Vinkenloop Demo-Site, collecting and analysing samples in the lab to track chemical and microbial processes over time.

What happened?

The sampling campaign resulted in an extensive dataset of a variety of substances, including several nutrients, nitrogen gasses and sulfide. This information will help researchers to improve their understandig of chemical processes within the woodchip bioreactor, helping them in the future optimisation of woodchip bioreactors. 

What's next? 

The dataset is now being used to prepare an academic publication. Building on this success, funding has been secured for a scaled-down monitoring campaign over the next two years, allowing the team to study the long-term effects and performance of the bioreactor in greater depth.
