IAH 2026 World Groundwater Congress

From 14 to 18 September 2026, GREENHOOD is present at the IAH 2026 World Groundwater Congress, the 53rd Congress of the International Association of Hydrogeologists, held in Budapest, Hungary, one of the most prestigious international gatherings of groundwater and water resources experts from around the world.

About the event

The World Groundwater Congress brings together researchers, private sector professionals, public administrators, policymakers, and NGOs from across the globe to explore the multifaceted role of groundwater in environmental sustainability and resource management. The 2026 edition returns to Hungary after half a century, spanning four days of scientific sessions and one day of field trips, with topics ranging from diffuse pollution and water quality to geothermal energy and sustainable water management.

GREENHOOD at the event

GREENHOOD's participation in the congress is driven by our work in the Ebro River Basin demo-region, where diffuse nitrate pollution from agriculture poses significant challenges for both surface and groundwater quality.

EURECAT represents GREENHOOD at the congress with a poster presentation sharing the first results of a conceptual model for assessing surface-groundwater nitrate pollution in a semi-arid region within the Ebro River Basin. The presentation covers the development of the conceptual model and the framework for the numerical model currently under development, aimed at improving understanding of diffuse pollution processes and advancing more sustainable water management practices.

Participating in the congress enables GREENHOOD to share knowledge with international experts in hydrogeology and water resources management and to situate the project's work within the broader global conversation on groundwater protection and nutrient pollution.
