GREENHOOD at IWA Nutrient Removal and Recovery Conference 2026
From 17–21 May 2026, GREENHOOD is in Delft, the Netherlands, for the International Water Association (IWA) Nutrient Removal and Recovery (NRR) Conference. This event serves as a premier venue for exploring biotechnological advancements that transform wastewater management into resource recovery.
About the event
Hosted by TU Delft and Royal HaskoningDHV, NRR 2026 focuses on the theme "From Curiosity-Driven Research to Disruptive Innovations". The conference brings together a global community of researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to bridge the gap between fundamental microbial discoveries and full-scale environmental applications.
The programme explores the future of nutrient management through several key lenses:
- Circular synergies: Bio-inspired solutions for nitrogen, phosphorus, and carbon recovery.
- Environmental footprint: Strategies for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions (N2O) and improving climate resilience.
- Novel technologies: Advancements in phototrophic, electrochemical, and membrane-based recovery systems.
- From lab to practice: Insights from pilot and full-scale studies to address engineering and societal challenges.
GREENHOOD at the event
GREENHOOD’s presence in Delft highlights our focus on moving circular nutrient innovations from research pilots to real-world impact. We are represented by partners leading two of our major demo-regions.
- Ebro River Basin demo-region: BETA Technological Centre (UVIC), our project coordinator, delivers a pitch presentation on the GREENHOOD project. This session provides an overview of our mission to rebalance nutrient flows and how our regional innovations contribute to the wider European circular bioeconomy.
- Rhine, Meuse & Scheldt Basin demo-region: Deltares, co-coordinator of this demo-region, presents a scientific poster on the results of our Woodchip Bioreactor. This presentation showcases practical data on how nature-based filtration systems can effectively remove and manage nutrients in regional water bodies.
By participating in these technical sessions and workshops, GREENHOOD continues to strengthen the link between high-level biotechnological research and the practical needs of the water and agricultural sectors.
